We are looking for a candidate who is serious about becoming a Head Golf Professional.  The Head Professional, Mike Demakos, has spent time working at Augusta National Golf Club, Bel-Air Country Club, East Hampton Golf Club and other clubs prior to his 16 years at Nantucket Golf Club.  He uses his experiences and relationships to mentor young Assistant Professionals to become successful once they take on a Head Professional position of their own. 

Currently, at least eight of his former staff are in Head Professional positions now. Some examples of these clubs are Sebonack Golf Club, McArthur Golf Club, The Floridian Golf Club, Butterfield Country Club, and Cabot St. Lucia Golf Club.

 

Nantucket Golf Club was designed by Rees Jones and opened in 1998.  When the course opened it was ranked as the “Best New Private” facility in America by Golf Digest.  Since then it has been ranked as a “Top 50 Golf Retreat” by Golf Digest in 2007. 

The club opens in mid-May and closes mid-October. Despite the “short”  season, over 11,000 rounds are played and over $850,000 are spent in the golf shop.

As a summer vacation getaway, Nantucket Golf Club on Nantucket Island, is  home to some of the Nation’s most influential people. Many different relationships can be developed after spending one summer at Nantucket Golf Club.

Nantucket is a walking only facility and caddies are mandatory for members and guests. During peak season, Nantucket has over 70 caddies that will work at least once every day.

As an intern, you will help facilitate daily rounds of golf and the execution of seven premier tournaments, as well as gain knowledge in instruction, club fitting, and the retail operation.

Experience Required

  • Ability to anticipate and skilled in multi-tasking at a high level
  • Effective communication skills
  • Excellent member service skills
  • High attention for detail and great organizational skills
  • Appearance resembling a successful golf professional

Essential Responsibilities

Intern will be responsible for, but not limited to the following activities: 

bagroom attendant, practice facility attendant, golf car fleet management, assistant caddie master responsibilities, club repair, tournament operations, clinic preparations, instruction of employee and junior clinics, golf shop, inventory control and any other duties as deemed necessary by the golf professionals.

Housing: Dorm-Style Housing is provided on property 1/2 mile from the clubhouse for a weekly minimal fee.  On island bus pass provided for free.
