Portland, OR | The Portland Golf Club (PGC), our Assistant Golf Professional will work with the Head Golf Professional as part of a talented and versatile staff to provide outstanding and memorable Member services. The position will promote an exceptional "golf experience" by providing services and programs for all Members to enjoy.

We are looking for a positive, energetic Assistant Professional with leadership and teambuilding skills. This professional will focus on family, social golf activities and clinics for golfers of all levels.  Visibility, member engagement, a genuine, helpful, and friendly attitude are extremely important.

This candidate will have experience in running tournaments and will need strong organizational skills. We are looking for someone who has a passion for teaching and developing fun programs and clinics for junior golfers and beginner golfers.

  • At present, there are approximately 580 members – comprised of 499 Golf and 81 Social Members
  • The department is comprised of 30 full-time and part-time employees
  • A robust caddy program is comprised of 40 caddies during the peak season
  • Member initiation fee is $56,000 with dues of $8,750 annually
  • The Club uses ClubEssential for its POS system, Golf Genius for tournament management, and ForeTees for tee time scheduling
  • The Pro Shop is owned by the PGC

Experience Required

Required Qualifications/Experience:

  • Entry level or higher within the PGA program
  • Strong dedication to exceeding member and guest expectations

Additional Preferred Qualifications (not listed in position description):

  • Associate or Bachelors degree a plus
  • Golf Genius experience
  • Knowledge of U.S.G.A. rules, handicap, & course rating system
  • Knowledge and experience in giving private lessons to golfers of all abilities, blended with a strong desire and passion to coach and build lesson programs for members/golfers of all abilities

Essential Responsibilities

Under direction of the HP, the Asst models professionalism to:

  • Work with Director of Instruction to assist with developing clinics for golfers of all levels
  • Introduce Op36 Program for junior and beginner golfers
  • Help run and organize the 18 hole and 9 hole ladies golf leagues
  • Assist with club tournaments when applicable
  • General golf operations (e.g. tee-time coordination, lesson book, handicapping, etc.)
  • Assists in the maintenance of an accurate inventory
  • Assists in teaching clinics, golf schools, private/group lessons, club fittings and the accurate reporting of these efforts
  • Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing, understand and carry out verbal and written instructions. Communicates with members, co-workers, management and the general public in a courteous and professional manner
  • Ability to interact professionally and maintain effective working relationships with management, co-workers and members. Further, modeling PGA professionalism and leadership for subordinates in the Golf Department is a responsibility.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instruction

Benefits

Income & Benefits
Based on the abilities and "member engagement" skills of the candidate, the total income range should range from $52,000-$60,000. The income will be made up of three components including:

  • Base hourly compensation of $18/hr plus income based on experience and qualifications
  • Lesson and Teaching Income of $10k-$20k: based on “member engagement” skills, work with junior programming, clinics; year-round teaching studio available to professional staff for teaching 
  • Merchandise commissions on Club/Equipment Sales per incentive policy $1500-$3000 annually based on skills of candidate

  • PTO is accrued (up to 176 hours annually); eligible for use after 180 days of employment

  • Tournament Allowance per policies/budget ($420/yr for Pro-Member entry fees)
  • Club will pay PGA education and then once qualified continued education up to $400 per year
  • Annual clothing allowance
  • Annual Holiday Bonus

Preferred start date of May 16, 2021 (but employer will be flexible based on the exit/arrival timing needed for successful candidate)
