Wildwood Golf Club’s history started in 1920 when George Wittmer, Jr., with the financial help of Dr. W.B. Ray, acquired the rolling farmland 12 miles north of Pittsburgh and built an 18-hole golf course and a beautiful stone clubhouse.  Wittmer opened the facility, which they called Wildwood Country Club, in late 1927. During its early years, Wildwood Country Club was the site for several major golf tournaments, including the Dapper Dan Open, which attracted some of the great professional golfers of that era, including Ralph Guldahl, Gene Sarazen, Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan.

The Head Golf Professional will oversee the total golf operation and services offered including the Pro Shop, driving range, short game facility and outside operations. The position will promote an exceptional “golf experience,” and provide excellent services and programs for all our members and guests.

The Head Golf Professional reports directly to the General Manager. He/she shall keep the General Manager and the Golf Committee Chairperson informed of activities and any problems in the operation of the Golf course and other areas of responsibility. Any material changes in the operation of the golf course or the operation of the Pro Shop shall be subject to the review and approval of the General Manager.

Experience Required

  • PGA or LPGA member preferred with a minimum of five years’ experience.
  • Private Club experience preferred.
  • Act as a role model for all employees by demonstrating the behavior and work ethic expected of all employees.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that will enable incumbent to develop strong member relationships.
  • Good Understanding of Club operations as well as Player Development.
  • Strong organizational, planning and prioritization skills.
  • Self-motivated with a desire to promote and market.
  • Maintain a credible golf game and remain current on teaching innovations.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Interprets and implements Club policies, rules and regulations.
  • Oversee the management and performance of all Pro Shop and Outside Operations, assuring high standards and total member/guest satisfaction.
  • Recruit, hire, train, motivate, mentor and manage all Pro Shop staff and Outside Operations staff.
  • Conducts staff meetings with Pro Shop staff and outside operations staff to ensure facility goals, objectives and standards are being met.
  • Oversee the reservation system, starting, monitoring, pace of play and caddie programs.
  • Develop and manage an innovative tournament program that services all members (Men, Women and Juniors) as well as recruitment and development of corporate golf events.
  • Develop, provide an oversee and enhanced golf instruction program offering individual and group clinics for all skill levels.
  • High degree of member engagement and ability to attract and retain new and existing golf members.
  • Play golf with members of all skill levels as time and duties permit.
  • Maintains records as it relates to member and guest rounds, greens fees, cart fees, bag storage, handicaps and other charges necessary and facilitate accurate accounting and recordkeeping.
  • Provide professional club repair and club fitting services
  • Oversee retail merchandise concession in step with the mission of the golf operation and Club.
  • Maintain an attractive and profitable golf merchandising operation.
  • Assist in the marketing and promotion of play for all members, including Men, Women, Junior, Social and New Memberships.
  • Attend all staff, management, golf committee, grounds committee and other applicable meetings.
  • Assist in the publication of newsletters, informational, and promotional materials.
  • Develop the Golf Calendar with oversight for the Golf Committee.
  • Responsible for the financial and operational performance of the golf shop operations and golf services.
  • Ensure all financial goals and objectives are being achieved
  • Assist the General Manager in the preparation of budgets, including forecasting and review of all golf operations revenues and expenses on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
  • Establish goals and forecasts for all golf programs and services, monitor and analyze reports.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the General Manager and Golf Course Superintendent and provide advice on course playability and tournament set up.
  • Coordinate plans with the Banquet Manager for food and beverage needs for all golf tournaments.
  • Represent Wildwood Golf Club at Professional golf events.
  • Always conduct oneself in a professional manner and maintain a professional image.
