General Manager

Overview

We are seeking a charismatic and efficient Golf and Country Club General Manager with a strong background in hospitality management, member satisfaction, and comprehensive oversight of club operations including a beautiful golf course, tennis and pickleball courts, swimming pool, and food & beverage services. This role will ensure exceptional customer service, operational excellence, and financial success across all areas of our prestigious golf and country club. The General Manager will report directly to the club Board of Directors. 

Experience Required

  • Bachelor's degree in hospitality management, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred). 

  • Certified Club Manager (CCM) or Certified Manager of Association (CMAA) designation strongly preferred. 

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in golf and country club operations or related field with a strong background in hospitality and member satisfaction. 

  • Familiarity with Jonas software is a plus. 

  • Familiarity with golf course maintenance practices and general golf operations. 

  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage a diverse team. 

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills. 

  • Strong financial acumen and experience with budgeting, financial analysis, and cost control. 
     

Essential Responsibilities

Operations Management: 

  • Oversee all day-to-day operations of the golf course, tennis and pickleball facilities, swimming pool, restaurant, and bar, emphasizing hospitality, member satisfaction, and operational efficiency. 

  • Coordinate with respective managers to ensure club standards are met while maintaining a hospitality-driven environment. 

  • Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to optimize member experience and satisfaction. 
     

Golf Course Oversight: 

  • Maintain an understanding of golf course maintenance practices and general golf course operations. 

  • Collaborate with and support the golf course superintendent to ensure course conditions meet high standards and are aligned with member expectations. 

  • Coordinate with Head Golf Professional and staff to support the planning and execution of golf events, tournaments, and member activities to enhance member engagement. 
     

Food and Beverage Management: 

  • Along with the Club Chef and Food and Beverages Manager, oversee food and beverage operations including restaurant, bar, and limited catering services. 

  • Ensure menu planning, pricing, inventory management, and quality control meet high standards of service and profitability. 

  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize revenue and enhance dining experiences for members and guests. 
     

Facilities Management: 

  • Oversee the maintenance and management of all club facilities, ensuring they are well-maintained, safe, and meet the needs of members and guests. 

  • Coordinate with maintenance staff and external contractors to address facility issues promptly and effectively. 

  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to extend the lifespan of club facilities and equipment. 
     

Events Management: 

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee a variety of events, including social gatherings, private parties, and tournaments. 

  • Work closely with members and clients to ensure their event needs are met and expectations are exceeded. 

  • Develop and implement event marketing strategies to attract participants and maximize attendance. 
     

Committee Collaboration: 

  • Work with various club committees as necessary to ensure club policies and initiatives are aligned with member interests and board directives. 

  • Support various club committee meetings as necessary to enhance member 

  • Continuously introduce new and exciting programs, activities, and technologies that keep the club experience fresh and engaging. 

 

Financial Management: 

  • Prepare and manage the annual budget, monitor financial performance, and implement cost control measures across all facilities. 

  • Drive revenue generation through innovative programs, events, and membership initiatives. 

  • Negotiate contracts with vendors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and service levels. 
     

Staff Leadership: 

  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise staff across all departments, fostering a positive and professional work environment. 

  • Provide ongoing coaching and development opportunities to enhance team performance. 

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to employees. 

  • Conduct regular staff meetings and ensure efficient collaborative communications take place throughout the organization. 
     

Member and Guest Experience: 

  • Ensure exceptional customer service standards are maintained throughout all areas of the facilities. 

  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance the overall member and guest experience and satisfaction. 

  • Respond promptly and professionally to member inquiries, concerns, and feedback. 

  • Ensure that every interaction with the club’s staff and services is marked by professionalism, friendliness, and a genuine commitment to member satisfaction. 

  • Tactfully ensure the code of conduct is always adhered to by members and guests. 
     

Marketing and Promotion: 

  • Develop and execute marketing strategies to attract new members and retain existing ones. 

  • Utilize digital platforms, social media, and local advertising to promote events, programs, and special offers. 

  • Represent the facilities in the local community and industry events to increase visibility and brand awareness. 

 

Regulatory Compliance: 

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to operations, safety standards, and environmental regulations. 

  • Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes. 
     

Board Meetings: 

  • Attend monthly Board meetings to provide updates on club operations, financial performance, and strategic initiatives. 

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement long-term goals and strategies for the club.
