The Opportunity:

Valhalla Golf Club seeks an experienced and dedicated First Assistant Golf Professional to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for golf, a desire to become a Head Golf Professional in their next position, a positive team player, exceptional organizational skills, and a strong commitment to providing the highest level of service to the members and their guests.

About Valhalla Golf Club:

Located on the east end of Louisville, Kentucky, Valhalla Golf Club is the premiere golf club in the commonwealth. Valhalla is steeped in championship history, having hosted the 2008 Ryder Cup, four PGA Championships, two Senior PGA Championships, and the future host of the 2028 Solheim Cup. It is a golf-only facility focused on providing a memorable golf experience you can only find in Kentucky.

Valhalla is a privately owned facility owned by four local businessmen and longtime members. Its vision is to become one of the premier golf clubs in the country and offer a Championship golf experience unlike any other in the world.

Salary: $63,000-$68,000

Responsibilities:

  • This is a leadership role. The Lead Assistant is responsible for scheduling and overseeing the schedule for the Seasonal Assistant Golf Professionals, interns, and clerks
  • Assist the Head Golf Professional in overseeing all aspects of golf operations, including staff supervision, daily activities, and member interactions.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service to members and guests, ensuring a welcoming and professional atmosphere.
  • Manage the golf shop, including merchandising, inventory control, and sales, while maintaining a visually appealing and well-stocked environment.
  • Assist in developing the golf operations budget and the annual golf shop operating budget
  • Assist players, members, and guests with their golfing needs, ensuring that every step of their golf experience at the Club runs as smoothly and is as enjoyable as possible.
  • Promote golf by teaching and conducting player development programs, including junior programs
  • Practice and play with the membership
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment for both members and staff.
  • Work closely with other staff members to manage and assign tasks related to tournament operations
  • Work closely with the Outside Operations Staff and Club Administration to coordinate all golf-related activities

Qualifications

  • PGA Member or Level 3 Associate in good standing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Golf Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a similar role at a high-end private club or resort.
  • Strong teaching and coaching abilities, and passionate about youth and adult player development.
  • Proficient in using golf industry software, technology, and POS systems.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, to meet the club's and its members' needs.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with experience managing and motivating staff.
