Overview

Gresham, OR | Nestled in between Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens and Mount Adams, our course is situated in a protective mountain bowl, surrounded by tall fir trees with numerous wetlands, lakes, and creeks throughout the beautiful scenery. Persimmon Country Club also has a host of club amenities, including tennis courts, a Jr. Olympic-size swimming pool, a fitness facility and a full-size practice range with a nearby short-game area and putting green.

With our breathtaking 18-hole course designed by top designer Gene "Bunny" Mason, Persimmon Country Club offers numerous opportunities for you to challenge your game no matter the skill level.

Persimmon's ownership has invested in a quality team to operate the facility, execute a strong member engagement experience and in the golf course and clubhouse. As an example, in Spring 2024, PCC unveiled a new Trackman simulator room, Overlook Bay, that provides an excellent space for teaching, coaching, and member socializing.

Experience Required

Meaningful golf industry experience, as well as golf/team management experience strongly preferred. Further, a college degree preferred and PGA status in "good standing" required including:

  • Minimum 5 years of golf industry experience required.
  • Minimum 2 years golf management (e.g. oversight of outside staff or similar) required
  • College Degree Preferred (or demonstrable vocational equivalent)
  • PGA Members Preferred
  • If not a PGA Member, actively pursuing and progressing toward PGA membership (if a PGA Associate) in a timely manner through the PGA Professional Golf Management (PGA PGM) program

Essential Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Head Golf Professional, the First Assistant Professional will lead in the following:

Administrative

  • Supervise an innovative tournament program, group outings, and leagues that service all customer segments
  • Supervise the annual tournament schedule & update tee sheet and online calendar accordingly
  • Schedule/Manage Outside Services Team proactively according to budget and business levels; further, lead in the training, retraining, recruiting and leadership by example of said team
  • Manage Proshop in a way that is consistent with the vision of the Head Professional and Senior Management. CORRECT tee sheet and communication. 
  • Lead the Golf Shop Team made up of other Assistant(s), Shop Staffers and similar while modeling professionalism, attentiveness and engagement
    Collaborate with the Head Professional on the Merchandising Program including open to buy, budget, inventory maintenance, reporting, etc.
  • Communicate by email to membership important daily golf course messages
  • Lead the team in knowledge, understanding and troubleshooting of all systems that help us manage, communicate, and service members.
    (e.g. entering new members, adding information to member profiles, GHIN, Foretees, Golf Genius, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain database of committee members, outside groups and contacts
  • Create and implement marketing and promotional strategies
  • Develop, update and maintain “Event Book” detailing, tasks, time lines, responsibilities, contacts and historical record; collaborate closely with the PCC Sales Manager to ensure accurate, complete delivery of promised "plan" for all outside events
  • For MGA/WGA tournaments, act as point person on all tournament related issues including; marketing/promotion/registration, contracts, event administration and resource management; while ensuring clear communication with the HP and all stakeholders
  • Attend committee planning meetings
  • Responsible for starting and scoring administration
  • Responsible for signage on site and assists in set up of same
  • Supervises day-to-day operations of events
  • Responsible for coordinating "team" meetings to prepare for events and activities related to each event

Facility

  • Works with Golf Course Superintendent and Head Professional to ensure that the golf course is in tournament condition
  • Collaborate proactively and support course set up with Superintendent including tee markers hole locations, rough height, green speed, special contests etc.
  • Coordinate food and beverage and set up requests with Food & Beverage Manager
  • Coordinate tee gifts, prizes and certificates with other Head Professional and Assistants

Golf Operations Management

  • Assist the Head Professional in accurate reporting and oversight within the reservation system, starting, monitoring, and pace of play
  • Lead the team, supporting the Head Professional, in the operation of the  golf car fleet while ensuring proper rotation, maintenance and recordkeeping
  • Lead the team, supporting the Head Professional, to ensure the proper presentation, stocking, setup and operation of the Club's practice facility
  • Manage professional club repair services insuring appropriate inventory is in stock and managed to drive revenue, minimize losses
  • Ensure the proper storage, safety, and cleaning of golf equipment including rental clubs, push carts and similar
  • Play golf with a variety of members and/or guests as time permits
  • Administer the Rules of Golf and educate staff; Promote and provide Rules of Golf clinics to the membership

Golf Administration

  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled by management and schedule staff meetings with golf operations personnel
  • Maintain safety standards and safety equipment within OSHA requirements
  • Assist in the publications of newsletters, informational, and promotional materials
  • Assist the Head Professional oversee the administration of the golf handicap program
  • Work closely with and provide guidance and consultation with all golf committees
  • Attend applicable committee meetings, management, and staff meetings when requested
  • Adhere to, enforce, and implement policies and procedures of the facility
  • Setup regular written communication with supervisor to include facility, programming, staff and customer updates

Business and Financial

  • Assist the Head Professional with the financial and operational performance of the golf shop operations and golf services
  • Ensure all financial goals and objectives are being achieved
  • Assist the Head Professional to ensure systems controls are in place to safeguard assets, revenues, and resources
  • In keeping with facility goals, utilize yield management techniques to maximize course usage

Other Facility/Departmental Responsibilities

  • Work closely with all department heads to achieve the goals and objectives of the facility
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the Golf Course Superintendent and provide advice on course playability and tournament set up
  • Assist the Membership Sales Director in the promotion of new member leads and provide a supporting role in assisting with prospective members and orientation of new members
  • Coordinate plans with the Food and Beverage Manager for food and beverage needs for all golf functions

Benefits

Income & Benefits
Based on the abilities and "member engagement" skills of the candidate, the total income range should range from $54,000-$68,000. The income will be made up of three components including:

  • Base salary of $52,500-59,000 annually: based on experience and qualifications
  • Lesson and Teaching Income of $2k-$10k: based on “member engagement” skills, work with junior programming, clinics; year-round teaching studio available to professional staff for teaching in conjunction with Dir of Player Development at the Club
