GOLF HOUSE KENTUCKY
Golf House Kentucky is the umbrella organization for Kentucky’s Family of Golf Organizations: Kentucky Golf Association, Kentucky PGA and Kentucky Golf Foundation. The vision of Kentucky’s golf leaders, Golf House Kentucky was founded in 1978, and is headquartered in a picturesque country setting in Louisville, Kentucky. Golf House Kentucky conducts competitions for golfers of all ages, gender and skill levels (amateur and professional) with a full-time staff of eleven (11) in addition to seasonal and intern positions throughout the prime season.
Working in partnership with the USGA, Golf House Kentucky provides individual golfers and member golf facilities with a wide range of services: Handicapping, USGA Course and Slope Rating, award programs, club consulting and golf management software. Golf House Kentucky’s philanthropic affiliate, the Kentucky Golf Foundation, promotes the Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame, Kentucky golf museum, and contains Kentucky Junior Golf programs. Encompassed within it are the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour, Youth on Course, PGA Jr. League, and Drive, Chip & Putt
- all of which exist to develop young golfers and further their love for the sport.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The CEO will serve as the primary leader of Golf House Kentucky, responsible for guiding its strategic vision and ensuring operational effectiveness across all divisions. The CEO will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and various stakeholders to enhance the growth of golf in Kentucky and a main focus of advancing the Kentucky Golf Foundation’s philanthropic initiatives. The CEO will serve as a support role to the Executive Directors of the Kentucky PGA and the Kentucky Golf Association.
Role Responsibilities:
Executive Leadership
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization and ensure its overall successful long-term operations.
- Foster a culture of collaboration and excellence among the Kentucky Golf Association, Kentucky PGA, and Kentucky Golf Foundation to maximize impact.
- Manage and motivate staff, overseeing processes such as hiring, separation, ongoing staff development, performance management, continued education, and compensation and benefits.
- Oversee all insurance policies for Golf House Kentucky.
- Provide vision and leadership to the Board and staff, ensuring that the organizational values of collaboration, cooperation and consensus are upheld personally and fostered within the organizational culture
- Shall be knowledgeable and familiar with employment laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and ensure the Employee handbook is updated and followed at all times.
- Oversee implementation of the strategic plan
Development and Fundraising
- Drive development and fundraising for the organization, leveraging the Board as needed. Responsible for overseeing all fundraising functions of the Kentucky Golf Foundation.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan that includes major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, planned giving, and special events.
- Work with the Foundation Board to identify and develop potential major gift prospects
- Cultivate relationships with sponsors, donors, and grant-making organizations to secure and diversify funding sources.
- Establish ongoing communications with sponsors/donors to better serve their wants and needs.
- Assist other Golf House Kentucky organizations in the development of sponsors for their areas.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in nonprofit fundraising and development, and work collaboratively with the Board of Directors and other stakeholders to continuously improve the organization’s fundraising efforts.
Marketing
- Work with the Director of Marketing to coordinate the improvement of and marketing of the Kentucky Golf website; www.kygolf.org
- Oversee the production of all promotional materials for Golf House Kentucky by working with the Director of Marketing
- Lead efforts, with the assistance of both Executive Directors, to develop and execute a comprehensive marketing strategy and plan that enhances the visibility and appeal of Golf House Kentucky, the Kentucky Golf Association, and the Kentucky PGA.
- Oversee a rebranding initiative, including updating the organization’s visual identity, messaging, and outreach strategies to better connect with current and potential stakeholders.
- Collaborate with marketing professionals to leverage digital platforms, social media, and community engagement to promote programs and events.
Financial
- Ensure that Golf House Kentucky is in compliance with all federal and state regulations and has sufficient internal controls to operate in accordance with new or revised regulations.
- Oversee the annual budgeting process and monthly financial tracking. Produce financial reports for the Foundation’s Board of Directors
- Monitor board-approved budget for the Foundation and Golf House Kentucky Board and manage financial operations to ensure maximum utilization of resources and optimum financial positioning for the organization
- Work with the Executive Directors of each organization to forecast quarterly contributions to ensure the KGA-PGA financial obligations are being met.
Board Governance
- Maintain regular and ongoing communication to build strong relationships with the Foundation Board and the Golf House Kentucky Board, providing leadership and support to members at all times
- Communicate effectively with the Foundation Board and Golf House Kentucky Board by providing members with all information necessary to continually function properly and make informed decisions in a timely and accurate manner
- Attend all Foundation and Golf House Kentucky Board meetings and provide reports and updates on staff as well as all current work, project timelines, and project and organizational progress
- Create and utilize an onboarding program for new Foundation Board members
- Work with respective Boards on long range planning issues that would include the development of new products, programs and services as well as the continued evaluation of current products, programs and services
Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame
- Responsible for coordinating the annual hall of fame voting by the Hall of Fame Selection Committee
- Responsible for working with all administration and maintenance in the continued development of the Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame Gallery area to include:
- Compilation of memorabilia
- Continue to monitor appeal of displays and develop new
ideas for the Hall of Fame
- Market the Hall of Fame throughout the year with a build-up to the selection and ceremony
- Create a presence for the event that will attract a title sponsor for the HOF Awards Ceremony
Building Maintenance
- Ensure the maintenance and enhancement of the Golf House facility and surrounding landscape.
- Coordinate with vendors for repairs, landscaping, and improvements.
- Capital improvements – monitor capital improvement needs for building and property
Qualifications
- Strong business acumen and a history of providing visionary leadership at the executive level.
- Proven experience working with and leading a nonprofit Board and working with diverse groups of people
- Familiarity with diverse business functions such as Marketing, Public Relations, Human Resources, etc.
- Experience and success in motivating, recruiting, developing, retaining, and mentoring high performance, mission-driven, and results-oriented teams
- Excellent written, oral, and public speaking skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with strong interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
Physical Requirements
- Lifting and transport equipment up to 50 pounds
- Long periods of time standing/walking both indoors and outdoors.
- Use of hands with computer data entry, collating materials, etc.
- Ability to hear and to see both short and long distances.
- Must be able to operate a vehicle and a golf cart
- Ability to travel and work extended hours (including weekends)
Hours & Work Schedule
Typical work week 40-60 hours
- Some Saturday/Sunday work required
Compensation
- Salary commensurate based on experience
- Eligible for an annual bonus. The bonus payment is not guaranteed and will be determined each year by the KGA-PGA Board of Directors.
