Internship: Communications Intern

The Philadelphia PGA Section, covering eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, Delaware, and northeastern Maryland, is one of 41 geographical managing entities of the PGA of America. This Section manages nearly 900 PGA Members and Associates who are employed at over 590 golf facilities in our region.

PGA REACH Philadelphia is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2018 as the charitable arm of the Philadelphia PGA Section, one of the 41 Sections within the PGA of America. PGA REACH Philadelphia is committed to serving our communities and growing the game of golf through our three pillars: Youth, Military, and Diversity.

As a member of the Section team, the Communications Intern will work closely with the Communications Director to assist in administering and maintaining the organization’s overall objectives, policies, programs, fiscal practices, and daily production operations.

Experience Required

• Experience with computers and in software applications, including, but not limited to, Google Workspace (G Suite), Adobe Creative Cloud (PhotoShop, InDesign, etc.), Wordpress, and Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience in social media platforms, including Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook
• Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills
• Skills in planning, organizing, multitasking, judgment and decision making
• Basic understanding of the game of golf
• Ability to:
• Interact, collaborate and build relationships with various departments within PGA of America and established vendors
• Accurately perform detailed tasks
• Perform tasks with minimal supervision
• Effectively present information and respond to questions
• Pay attention to detail
• Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
• Present oneself in a professional manner and appearance
• Transport moderately heavy tournament equipment and supplies
• Work under deadline pressure
• Travel overnight
• Work weekends and holidays
• Prioritize own workload, expedite, and organize flow of work.
• Be flexible

Reports to: Communications Director

Essential Responsibilities

• Website administration
• Social media platform management
• Content creation (editorial, photography, video production, press releases, digital newsletters, and e-pubs)
• Event planning and operations (golf tournaments, clinics, seminars, and meetings)
• General program management, operations, and foundation fundraising campaign execution
• Assist in coordination, administration, promotion, and tracking of Section and foundation programs
• Assist other Philadelphia PGA and/or PGA REACH Philadelphia staff when necessary
• Perform and oversee other duties as necessary or directed by the Section and/or foundation. This position will be responsible for accomplishing unforeseen tasks that relate to the assigned function for the Section and/or foundation.

Position / Physical Conditions: This position requires an ability to work independently on many projects and in a comparatively structured environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk and/or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; sit; use hands to fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; golf knowledge is a positive.

Compensation and Benefits: Compensation dependent on qualifications; use of a company vehicle or mileage reimbursement for all work related travel to and from events.
