Assistant Golf Professional

Overview

Primary Purpose:

The Saskatoon Golf Club (SGC) Assistant Golf Professional works under the direction of the Club Professional / Head Professional, primarily in the golf shop. Retail responsibilities include: Point of Sale (POS) system operations for golf bookings and sales; achieving sales targets by providing excellent customer service at all times; giving advice and up selling products and services; taking responsibility for the golf shop being clean, organized and professionally presented at all times; proactively promoting and merchandising the stock; stock control and assisting with the ordering of stock and services, when required. Teaching/instruction responsibilities include: planning and delivery of golf instruction for individuals and groups; assist in organizing and running outings and leagues.

Essential Responsibilities

Operations:

  • Ability to operate computerized tee sheet management software and POS.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures following standard operating procedures for cash drawer reconciliation, site security, etc.
  • Collect fees and process payments in line with SGC procedures, including shop purchases and green fees.
  • Assist in organizing and running tournaments and other events, to help make them a success, in line with club policy.
  • Organize and control play ensuring that customers receive the best service and enjoyment during their day.
  • Organize and control the practice facilities ensuring that customers are able to practice according to the guidelines set forth by SGC.
  • Complete daily reports as required.

Golf Instruction:

  • Organize and deliver effective instruction/coaching for individuals and groups, ensuring that participants’ needs are identified. Coaching sessions to be planned and delivered to develop participants’ performance.
  • Assist with organizing and promoting junior golf programs.
  • Deliver school/junior development courses, which maximize student progress and enjoyment in the game.
  • Work on own initiative to build up client base for personal instruction/coaching.

Retailing:

  • Supervise the daily operation of the golf shop under the direction of the Head Golf Professional.
  • Offer specialist advice using product knowledge, recommend products and services to meet customer requirements.
  • Achieve established sales targets.
  • Provide excellent customer service at all times.
  • Ensure that the golf shop is clean, orderly, well-stocked and professionally presented at all times.
  • Monitor and regularly update sales display areas, including window displays and merchandise in hot spots.
  • Assist in organizing promotions to stimulate golf shop sales.
  • Assist with stock control and ordering, pricing and barcoding.
  • Follow all established shop procedures, including those for payment processing, handling, customer complaints, opening and closing, Health and Safety, Security, etc.

Management:

  • Act as onsite supervisor when the Head Golf Professional is not on duty.
  • Prepare and allocate duties for golf shop staff when acting as shift supervisor.
  • Promote positive customer relations, supporting other staff as needed. Under the guidance of Head Golf Professional, provide orientation and training for new staff.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, facility owners, and customers.

Marketing and Customer Service:

  • Provide excellent customer service at all times.
  • Promote all golf club activities and services, acting as an ambassador for the facility.
